Yemen government forces and Houthi fighters signed a deal in Amman to release more than 1,600 detainees. This is the largest prisoner exchange in the eleven-year civil war, reached after 14 weeks of negotiations.
Both sides in Yemen's civil war have agreed to exchange prisoners. The Yemeni government and Houthi armed forces signed an agreement in Jordan's capital Amman. Under this agreement, the two sides will release over 1,600 detainees.
This is the largest prisoner exchange operation in Yemen's 11-year civil war. The negotiations lasted 14 weeks and finally reached an agreement in Amman. The Houthi armed forces, supported by Iran, have been fighting with Yemen's internationally recognized government for many years.
The detainees come from both sides of the conflict, including civilians and prisoners of war.
