UN Cuts Food Aid for Over One Million Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

The World Food Programme cut food assistance for more than 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh starting in April 2026, with some families receiving as little as seven dollars per month due to a severe funding shortfall.

The United Nations World Food Programme announced cuts to food aid for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Bangladesh currently hosts over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees.

Previously, each refugee could receive twelve US dollars per month in food assistance. Starting from April, some families can only receive seven US dollars monthly.

This year's aid funding has only fulfilled 19 percent of the required amount. The refugees are extremely worried, and dozens have protested on the streets demanding restoration of original assistance levels.

Local officials stated that some refugees may leave the camps to search for food and employment opportunities.
