Scientists discovered a new green pitviper species in the misty mountains of Sichuan, China. For years researchers assumed it was a common snake, until DNA analysis confirmed it is an entirely new species.

Scientists discovered a new species of green snake in the mountains of Sichuan.

This snake, called the green pitviper, features bright green coloring and has long concealed itself in mountain mist.

Researchers previously believed it to be a common snake species and did not pay special attention to it.

Later, scientists conducted DNA testing on it and discovered it to be an entirely new species.
