US Lifts Sanctions on Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez

The US announced on April 2 that it was lifting sanctions on Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodriguez. Rodriguez became acting president after the US arrested former president Maduro in January and has since cooperated with the Trump administration.

The U.S. government announced on April 2nd that it lifted sanctions on Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez. On January 3rd of this year, U.S. military forces arrested former president Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela's capital, Caracas. Maduro was subsequently taken to New York, facing drug smuggling charges, which he denied.

Rodriguez became acting president after Maduro's arrest and began cooperating with the Trump government to promote Venezuelan economic reform. Her acting president term is 90 days and will expire on April 4th. The U.S. lifting of sanctions is regarded as recognition of Rodriguez's legitimate governing status.
