Stellantis Temporarily Lays Off 900 US Workers Amid Tariff Fallout

US automaker Stellantis temporarily laid off 900 workers at five US plants and shut factories in Canada and Mexico after a 25 percent US tariff on imported cars took effect.

The US government imposed new tariffs on foreign cars. Each imported car must pay additional 25% tax. Automobile company Stellantis therefore received major impact. On April 3, the company announced 900 US workers temporary work stoppage. These workers work at five different US factories. The Canadian Windsor factory work stoppage lasted two weeks. The Mexican factory entire April was closed. The company said laid-off workers can continue receiving wages. Many people worry the trade war will cause more people to become unemployed.
