Snap Cuts 1,000 Jobs as CEO Cites AI Efficiency in Major Restructuring

Snap announced it will cut approximately 1,000 full-time employees, about 16 percent of its global workforce. CEO Evan Spiegel said AI advancements allow smaller teams to do more work, and the restructuring is expected to save the company over $500 million annually.

Snap Inc. announced on April 15th that it will lay off approximately one thousand full-time employees, accounting for about 16 percent of the company's total global workforce.

CEO Evan Spiegel stated in a letter to employees that advancements in artificial intelligence technology have enabled the team to accomplish more work with fewer staff members while reducing repetitive labor.

He also mentioned that currently over 65 percent of the company's new code has been generated with the help of artificial intelligence, significantly improving work efficiency.

At the same time, Snap is closing over 300 open job positions and expects to reduce annual operating expenses by over 500 million dollars.

This round of layoffs will result in one-time restructuring costs ranging from 95 million to 130 million dollars, primarily recognized in the second quarter.

Affected by the announcement of the layoff news, Snap's stock price surged on that day, and investors responded positively to the company's decision to reduce costs.
