Science & TechnologySK Hynix Hits $1 Trillion Valuation as AI Chip Demand Soars
South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix surged past a $1 trillion market cap, driven by soaring demand for high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI servers. The company is a key supplier of HBM to Nvidia.
On May 27th, South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix saw its share price soar by over 11 percent in a single day, with its market capitalization breaking through one trillion US dollars for the first time. Since the start of 2026, SK Hynix's share price has risen cumulatively by approximately 250 percent, ranking among the top gains among major global technology stocks.
The core driving factor for this surge is the sharp increase in demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used by artificial intelligence servers. SK Hynix is a major supplier of high-bandwidth memory to Nvidia, and its entire 2026 production capacity is already sold out. Analysts predict that the supply shortage will persist until 2027, as cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure construction is still in full swing.
As a result, SK Hynix has become the third memory chip company with market capitalization surpassing one trillion US dollars, following Samsung and Micron.
