South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix announced record-setting first quarter financial results. The company's first quarter revenue reached 52.6 trillion Korean won, with operating profit of 37.6 trillion Korean won—a fivefold year-on-year increase and nearly double quarter-on-quarter.
The operating profit margin reached 72 percent, setting the highest record in company history. Behind the strong results lies global AI data center expansion driving robust demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM).
SK Hynix is the world's largest HBM supplier, with its products widely used in AI chip products from Nvidia and others. Citibank forecasts that SK Hynix's full-year operating profit will reach 251 trillion Korean won.
Driven by these strong semiconductor results, South Korea's KOSPI index recently surpassed the 7,800-point level, setting historical highs for five consecutive trading days.
