Samsung Workers Ratify Wage Deal, Averting Strike

Samsung Electronics union members voted to ratify a wage agreement, ending a five-month labor dispute and averting a strike that would have disrupted global chip supplies.

Samsung Electronics union members voted on May 27 to approve a new wage agreement. Approximately 74 percent of voting workers supported this agreement, avoiding a potential strike that could impact global chip supply. This dispute lasted five months, with the main reason being worker dissatisfaction with performance bonus distribution. According to the agreement, Samsung will establish a special performance bonus system for semiconductor department workers for ten years. It is estimated that each worker can receive up to approximately 400,000 dollars in bonuses. Following the announcement, Samsung's stock price rose 7 percent.
