Science & TechnologySamsung Market Cap Tops $1 Trillion on AI Chip Rally
Samsung Electronics share price surged 14 percent in a single day, pushing its market capitalization above $1 trillion for the first time. This made it the second Asian company after TSMC to reach the milestone.
On May 6th, Samsung Electronics' market capitalization exceeded one trillion U.S. dollars. On that day, Samsung's share price rose 14%, driving South Korea's composite stock index up more than 6%.
Samsung thus became the second company in Asia to achieve a market valuation exceeding one trillion dollars, following TSMC. This upward trend is primarily driven by the surging demand for artificial intelligence chips.
Samsung's first-quarter operating profit reached 57.2 trillion Korean won, setting a new historical record. The semiconductor division contributed 94% of the total profit. Samsung stated that the memory chip market currently faces a supply shortage, and supply-demand conditions in 2027 will be even tighter compared to 2026.
