China & WorldRussia Violates Ukraine Ceasefire With Drone and Missile Strikes, Zelenskyy Condemns Attacks
Russia declared a unilateral ceasefire around Victory Day but then launched large-scale drone and missile strikes on Ukraine, killing at least 22. Zelenskyy said Russian forces had committed more than 1,820 ceasefire violations.
Russia announced that it would implement a unilateral ceasefire during Victory Day commemorative activities from May 8th to 9th. However, Russian forces immediately launched large-scale drone and missile strikes against Ukraine, resulting in at least 22 civilian deaths and more than 80 people wounded.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that as of 10:00 a.m. on May 6th, Russian forces had violated the ceasefire with over 1,820 violations, including artillery bombardment, airstrikes, and drone attacks. He condemned Moscow's ceasefire declaration as utter hypocrisy and announced that Ukraine would respond in kind.
Previously, Ukraine had also announced its own ceasefire plan, which took effect at midnight on May 5th to 6th. Both sides refuse to acknowledge each other's ceasefire terms, and the situation remains tense.
Russia had previously stated that if Ukraine violated the ceasefire agreement, it would carry out large-scale missile strikes against Kyiv.
