Mistral Raises $830 Million to Build Data Center Near Paris and Explores Custom Chip Design

French AI company Mistral announced it has raised $830 million through debt financing to build its first large-scale AI data center south of Paris.

French artificial intelligence company Mistral announced on May 28 that it has raised 830 million dollars through debt financing. The raised funds will be used to procure Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPU infrastructure, totaling 13,800 GPUs. The data center location is chosen at Bruyères-le-Châtel south of Paris, managed by French data center operator Eclairion. It is expected that this facility will commence operations before the end of June this year. Additionally, Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch stated that the company is currently exploring the feasibility of designing independent proprietary chips. Mistral also set a goal to establish 200 megawatts of artificial intelligence computing power at multiple European sites before the end of 2027. This initiative is Europe's important effort to reduce reliance on United States technology giants.
