Microsoft Opens Denmark East Cloud Region With Zero-Water Cooling and Waste Heat Recovery

Microsoft opened a new cloud datacenter region in Denmark on March 26, using zero water for cooling. The data center can recover surplus heat to warm approximately 6,000 local homes and runs on renewable energy.

Microsoft officially opened a new data center region in Denmark on March 26th. This region contains three campuses located near Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. Danish customers can now store their data in their own country and receive protection under European Union law.

This data center does not use water for cooling, saving a large amount of water resources. The data center can also recover excess heat, used to provide heating for approximately 6,000 nearby households. Microsoft also signed agreements with local companies to use 130 megawatts of renewable energy annually. This is part of Microsoft's expansion of Europe's digital infrastructure, aimed at meeting the demand from rapid artificial intelligence development.
