Jihadists and Separatist Rebels Launch Coordinated Attacks Across Mali, Defense Minister Killed

On April 25, coordinated large-scale armed attacks erupted across multiple cities in Mali, with jihadist groups and Tuareg separatist fighters launching simultaneous offensives. The defense minister was killed in a car bombing near the capital and Bamako airport was forced to close.

International climate scientists released a comprehensive report on April 17 warning that global temperatures continue to rise despite international climate agreements.

Data shows that the past three years have been the warmest on record globally. The report attributes this to continued greenhouse gas emissions, with carbon dioxide levels reaching new highs in the atmosphere.

The scientists call for immediate and dramatic reductions in fossil fuel consumption and a rapid transition to renewable energy sources. They warn that without significant action, global temperatures could rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius by the end of this century.

Economic analyses in the report indicate that the cost of inaction far exceeds the costs of transitioning to clean energy. The researchers emphasize that technology and resources exist to address climate change; the challenge lies in political will and implementation.

The report has been submitted to the United Nations for consideration in ongoing climate negotiations.
