China & WorldChina Jielong-3 Rocket Debris Falls in Philippine Waters
Debris from Chinas Jielong-3 rocket launched on August 5 was expected to fall in Philippine waters within the exclusive economic zone.
Chinas Jielong-3 launch vehicle rocket was launched on August 5. The launch location was Chinas Yellow Sea coastal area in Binzhou. According to a statement released by the Philippine Space Agency, the rocket debris was expected to fall northwest of Northern Luzon. The debris drop zone is approximately 94 nautical miles away from Babuyan Island. The drop zone is located within the Philippines exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Philippine Coast Guard required vessels to avoid the area. Although the risk of debris falling into Philippine territory is relatively low, this incident once again sparked Philippine concerns about space safety.
