iOS 27 Will Let Users Choose Third-Party AI Models to Power Apple Intelligence

Apple plans to open its Apple Intelligence framework in iOS 27, letting users set third-party models such as Claude or Gemini as their default AI service.

According to reports, Apple plans to launch iOS 27 this autumn and will open up Apple Intelligence, allowing users to choose third-party AI services.

This feature is internally called "Extensions" and will cover core functions including Siri, Writing Tools, and image generation. At that time, users will be able to set Google's Gemini or Anthropic's Claude as their default AI engine.

Additionally, Apple also plans to allow users to choose third-party AI voice for Siri, so they can distinguish between native and third-party responses.

This shift marks Apple's significant transformation from a closed AI ecosystem toward an open platform strategy.

Currently, both Google's and Anthropic's models have already entered Apple's testing phase.
