Ship Seized Near UAE Coast and Directed Toward Iranian Waters as Hormuz Tensions Rise

A ship was seized near the UAE coast by unidentified personnel and directed toward Iranian waters, the latest incident raising tensions near the Strait of Hormuz.

On May 14, UK maritime authorities warned that a vessel was seized near UAE waters and heading toward Iranian waters. The ship was hijacked at anchorage northeast of Fujairah by unidentified personnel. Meanwhile, another vessel was attacked nearby in Oman waters and sank. Hormuz Strait is a critical global energy transport passage with approximately one-fifth of world oil passing through. Since February 2026, Iran has continuously restricted shipping passage through the strait. This incident intensified international concerns about global energy market security. UK maritime authorities continue investigating incident details and have not confirmed the seized vessel's identity.
