French UNIFIL Soldier Killed in Lebanon Attack as Macron Points Blame at Hezbollah

A French soldier on United Nations peacekeeping duty in Lebanon was killed by gunfire on April 18th, with French President Macron attributing responsibility to Hezbollah, which denied involvement.

On April 18th, a French peacekeeper was killed in an attack near the Ghandouriyeh village in southern Lebanon while carrying out UN interim force missions. The victim was identified as a staff sergeant from France's 17th Paratrooper Engineer Regiment named Florian Montorio. The patrol unit was executing a mission to open a route to a surrounded peacekeeping outpost.
