EU Approves 90 Billion Euro Loan to Ukraine and 20th Sanctions Package Against Russia

EU member state ambassadors approved a 90 billion euro two-year loan to Ukraine and reached agreement on a 20th round of sanctions against Russia. The decision became possible after Hungary and Slovakia withdrew their vetoes.

EU member state ambassadors approved on April 22 in Brussels a plan to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros in loans for two years.

These funds aim to support Ukraine's economic stability and post-war reconstruction.

This loan program lasts two years, intended to support Ukraine's economic stability and war reconstruction.

Previously, Hungary and Slovakia had objections to certain provisions, stalling the process. Later, when Russian oil rerouted through pipelines to Hungary, Hungary withdrew its veto.

The EU also approved new sanctions measures against Russia.

The 20th round of anti-Russia sanctions measures includes a comprehensive ban on maritime services to Russian oil tankers, though final implementation depends on G7 coordination.

This EU summit will also discuss Middle East dynamics triggered by Iran's war and resulting energy risks to Europe.

Analysts believe this move demonstrates the EU's political will for continued support to Ukraine, despite differences remaining among member states.
