Cloudflare Cuts 1,100 Jobs, Citing AI Replacing Roles

Cloudflare announced layoffs of approximately 1,100 employees, about one fifth of its global workforce, saying AI has made those roles obsolete. The company reported record revenue of $639.8 million for Q1 2026 even as its stock fell more than 20%.

Cloudflare announced a layoff plan on May 7th, reducing over 1,100 employees.

This layoff accounts for approximately one-fifth of the company's total global workforce.

The company's CEO stated that this layoff is not intended to reduce costs, but rather because artificial intelligence has changed the way work is done.

Within the company, internal artificial intelligence usage has grown more than 600% within three months.

Cloudflare's Q1 revenue reached $639.8 million, setting a new historical high.

However, following the layoff announcement, the company's stock price fell more than 20%.

Laid-off employees will receive compensation, including full salary through the end of 2026.
