Cloudflare Cuts Over 1,100 Jobs, Citing AI Replacement of Roles

Cloudflare announced on May 7 that it is cutting approximately 20 percent of its workforce, totaling over 1,100 employees. The CEO stated that internal AI usage had grown by more than 600 percent within three months.

The cybersecurity company Cloudflare announced its Q1 financial report on May 7th while simultaneously announcing layoffs exceeding 1,100 people.

This layoff accounts for approximately 20% of the company's total global workforce and represents the first large-scale layoff in the company's 16-year history.

CEO Matthew Prince stated that due to significant improvements in artificial intelligence efficiency, the company no longer needs so many support positions.

Internal company data shows that over the past three months, employees' usage frequency of AI agent programs increased by more than 600%.

Despite this, the company's quarterly revenue still reached $639.8 million with year-on-year growth of 34%, setting a new historical high.

Following this news, Cloudflare's stock price fell approximately 24% on that day.

Laid-off employees will receive severance pay, including their full base salary through the end of 2026.
