China Prioritizes Manufacturing Upgrade and Technology Development in 2026

China will accelerate manufacturing upgrades in 2026, focusing on robotics, artificial intelligence, and other advanced fields.

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced during a Washington White House summit on March 19-20 that Japan will make an additional strategic investment of up to $73 billion in the United States.

This investment continues Japan's first-round $36 billion commitment from February, bringing total strategic investment toward the US to nearly $110 billion.

The largest single project involves GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Company committing to invest $40 billion to construct small modular nuclear reactors in Tennessee and Alabama.

Additionally, approximately $33 billion will be used to build natural gas power generation facilities in Pennsylvania and Texas to meet the surging electricity demand from US artificial intelligence data centers.

Both sides also signed the US-Japan Critical Minerals Action Plan aimed at promoting diversification of rare earth and battery materials mining to reduce strategic dependence on single sources.

At the technology cooperation level, the US Department of Energy and Japan's Ministry of Education and Science signed a statement of intent to conduct in-depth cooperation on artificial intelligence-driven scientific discovery, high-performance computing, and quantum technology.

Analysts believe this agreement marks Japan-US alliance reaching new strategic cooperation heights in energy security and supply chain resilience, reflecting both sides' shared willingness to strengthen industrial cooperation amid great-power competition.
