California Governor Newsom Issues Executive Order Requiring Safety and Bias Audits for Government AI Procurement

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order requiring state government agencies to conduct safety, privacy, and bias audits before procuring AI systems. The order also established an AI governance council, making California one of the first major US states to implement a systematic regulatory framework for government AI.

Pfizer announced positive results from Phase 3 trials of its new cancer immunotherapy drug. The drug showed 65 percent improvement in five-year survival rates compared to existing treatments.

The company plans to seek regulatory approval from the FDA by late 2026.

If approved, the drug could become a blockbuster with peak annual sales estimated at $5 billion.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla stated that this breakthrough represents years of research investment.

Stock markets responded positively to the announcement, with Pfizer shares rising 4 percent.
