Science & TechnologyBlue Origin Reuses New Glenn Rocket Booster for First Time but Satellite Enters Off-Target Orbit
Blue Origin reused a New Glenn booster for the first time on April 19, landing it on a drone ship in the Atlantic. However the satellite it carried entered an off-target orbit due to an upper stage failure.
U.S. aerospace company Blue Origin launched its New Glenn rocket on April 19th, executing the third mission (NG-3) designation. This flight for the first time reused a booster that had previously been used during the NG-2 mission in November 2025. About six minutes after booster separation, it successfully landed on the Jacklyn drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean. However, approximately two hours later, Blue Origin announced the satellite failed to enter its planned orbit with orbital deviation occurring. The NG-3 mission carried a communications satellite from AST SpaceMobile, currently being evaluated for its actual operational status. Despite the upper stage malfunction, the booster's successful recovery is still regarded as an important Blue Origin milestone challenging SpaceX.
