Apple and Google Partner to Power Next-Generation Siri with Gemini AI

Apple and Google announced a multi-year partnership to power the next generation of Siri with Gemini AI. The new Siri, launching with iOS 26.4, can understand screen content and execute complex cross-app tasks.

Apple and Google announced on January 12 that they have reached a multi-year cooperation agreement. Google's Gemini model will provide the technical foundation for Apple's next-generation artificial intelligence features.

According to reports, Apple will pay Google approximately $1 billion in exchange for this partnership, obtaining licensing to Google's artificial intelligence technology.

Both parties' statement pointed out that the Apple foundation model based on Gemini will run on Apple devices and its private cloud computing architecture in order to protect user privacy.

The new Siri will be built into iOS 26.4, able to understand smartphone screen content, and execute complex multi-step tasks across applications.

Compared with previous versions, the new Siri is more conversational, able to conduct natural and fluent continuous conversations in a manner similar to ChatGPT.

Apple also plans to release larger-scale Siri feature upgrades at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Analysts believe that this partnership indicates Apple's research and development progress in artificial intelligence lags behind, requiring external technology to accelerate catching up.
