The collaboration would leverage Samsungs advanced 2-nanometer manufacturing process and next-generation packaging technologies. The discussions are still in early stages as Anthropic determines the processors functionality, power requirements, and how it would integrate into server infrastructure. This move follows OpenAIs precedent of collaborating with Broadcom to develop its own inference chip called Jalapeno in 2024. Anthropic recently hired Clive Chan, an early member of OpenAIs custom chip team, signaling the company commitment to developing proprietary silicon. The company is also in talks with multiple other chip design firms to explore additional options.
