Abbott Laboratories Finalizes $21 Billion Acquisition of Exact Sciences

US healthcare company Abbott Laboratories acquired cancer screening firm Exact Sciences for approximately $21 billion, gaining the Cologuard colorectal cancer test.

On March 23, Abbott Laboratories formally completed acquisition of Exact Sciences cancer diagnostics company with transaction amount approximately $21 billion. The acquisition price is $105 per share, with total enterprise value approximately $23 billion. Exact Sciences is a company focused on early-stage cancer detection, with flagship Cologuard colorectal cancer screening product. Cologuard detects early-stage colorectal cancer signs by analyzing stool samples without needing traditional colonoscopy examination. Abbott stated this acquisition will enable it to gain stronger competitiveness in the $60 billion global cancer diagnostics market. The two companies originally announced merger intention in November 2025 and completed final closing this year in March. Abbott expects this acquisition will bring approximately $3 billion incremental sales revenue for the company within remaining 2026 time. Analysts pointed out this acquisition is one of largest US healthcare industry M&A deals in recent years.
